Further to our report that
the 1911 census had been released, news now comes that it has been made
public on the Internet by the Library and Archives Canada (LAC) <http://www.collectionscanada.ca/archivianet/1911/index-e.html>. It has yet been made available if you visit the LAC, nor is it available by inter-institutional loan at the moment.
The 1911 census information was collected from June
1st, 1911, and covers the provinces of British Columbia, Alberta,
Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and
Prince Edward Island. The northern territories of the Yukon and the
Northwest Territories, are included.
The population schedule described people in terms of
their name, religion, ethnic origin, age, gender, education,
occupation, and social condition. It also lists the head of the house
and the other people's relationship to him or her.
The website suggests that there may be "slower performance during peak usage periods (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.)".
